Brauhausberg, Potsdam, Deutschland - Hasso Plattner plans a comprehensive redesign of the former state parliament building on the Potsdam Brauhausberg into a new university campus. The ambitious project, which is scheduled for up to 6,000 students, is realized by the building contractor Jan Kretzschmar, who acquired the abandoned building in May 2023. The house that has been empty since autumn 2018 has suffered greatly; Leaving plaster, falling plasterboard and vandalism damage are just a few of the defects that the condition of the "Kremlin" shows. In August 2023 there was also a fire that almost completely destroyed the roof structure, which further underlines the urgency of the renovation.

The building was built in 1899 under Kaiser Wilhelm II as an officers' school and has undergone an eventful history as an imperial archive, army archive and later as a SED district management. Kretzschmar plans to rebuild the old tower, but sees numerous challenges in implementation. In addition to the conversion of the former state parliament building, several new buildings are to be built on the 40,000 square meter site. According to Plattner, the project will cost a three -digit million amount, with the exact numbers still unknown.

The new development plan must be passed by the city council in Potsdam, which is scheduled for September 2025. The construction could be completed in about three years after the necessary permits have been issued. The mayor of the interim Burkhard Exner described the project as future-oriented for the city and emphasized the positive development it promises.

In addition to the previous plans, the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) will also be expanded on the Griebnitzsee. The focus will be on a courses in legal, economic and social sciences. The Hasso Plattner Foundation will contribute significantly to the financing of the entire project and has already signed a “Letter of Intent” that officially starts the project. Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke has guaranteed his support for the project and provided a property for the new campus.

Plattner's commitment is not limited to educational projects. He recently donated ten Atticascular for the Potsdam city palace, which were set up in several phases. Six sculptures can already be admired on the southwestern wing of the Corps de Logis, while the remaining four are to be installed at another point. Among other things, these are works of art by well -known muses that are supposed to contribute to the city's cultural heritage.
