New tour plans in the north presented

At a solemn presentation, the district mayors of Reinickendorf, Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, and from Pankow, Dr. Cordelia Koch, presented the new touring plans "Villages of the North". The tours lead to historical buildings, farms, fascinating architecture and medieval village nuclei in the districts of Reinickendorf and Pankow. The history of the Berlin villages goes back to the 13th century when the areas east of the Elbe were populated. The names of many Berlin districts end on "OW", like Pankow. Each village has its own story.

There have been different themed tours, including bike tours to village history (s) from Pankow and Reinickendorf, bike tours to building history and architecture over time in the two districts as well as special adventure tours for children in Blankenfelde and Lübars. The tours can be both printed and explored digitally. The printed plans are available, among others, in the TIC - Tourist Information Center in the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin. The digital version can be found on the website of the TIC- cultural and tourism marketing Berlin-Pankow and can be experienced via Komoot.

The cross-district project was realized in cooperation between the Office for Economic Development of both districts, the Tourismus Association Berlin-Pankow e.V. and Berlin-Reinickendorf e.V., the Barnim Nature Park and other partners. The costs of 45,000 euros were borne by both districts and financed by the City Tax funds. 1,500 copies were printed for each of the four tour plans.

dr. Cordelia Koch, district mayor of Pankow, emphasized the attractiveness of the tours for those interested in nature and emphasized the tour to French-Buchholz and the Karower ponds. Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, district mayor of Reinickendorf, in particular recommends the media-based children's tour through the oldest village of Berlin, Lübars, for families with children. Dr. Peter Gärtner, Head of Nature Park Barnim, praised the quality brand that the nature park has become over the years.

Oskar Tschörner from the Citizens' Initiative Elisabeth-Aue underlined the importance of the natural areas around the fields for the summer cooling of the air in the city and warned to maintain these areas.

The new tours offer a unique opportunity to discover the history and architecture of the Berlin villages and to enjoy nature around the city. Further information on the tours is available on the TIC- Kultur- und Tourismenmarketing Berlin-Pankow.
