New Presidium at the 1st FC Union Berlin: Zingler and strong women at the top!
Alte Försterei, Berlin, Deutschland - On July 1, 2025, the 1. FC Union Berlin made a comprehensive reform in its management structure. The association has reorganized its presidium with the aim of creating a full -time management that can cope with both the sporting challenges and the necessary infrastructural changes. President Dirk Zingler, who starts a new term after 21 years as a volunteer president, will now perform this task full -time together with seven colleagues. Zingler was appointed by the Supervisory Board for an term until 2029, which brings him into a central role for the coming years.
The occupation of the new Presidium, which is now added by two women: Jennifer Zietz and Katharina Kienemann is particularly remarkable. Zietz, who has already made her contribution to the promotion to the Bundesliga as managing director of the women's selection, as well as Kienemann, who acts as managing director of the "Alte Försterei" VerstereiSungs GmbH, are symbolic of change in football management, where women are still underrepresented in top positions. Der Spiegel points out that equal representation in management positions is a decisive topic in German football.
planned infrastructure measures
The center of the association's future projects are important construction projects. The 1. FC Union Berlin plans to build a new professional training center near the stadium on the old forester's shop. Thomas Koch, the chairman of the supervisory board, emphasizes how important financial means and strategic decisions are for the successful implementation of these plans. Dirk Zingler sees a new beginning in the takeover of his new role and speaks of the challenges of the past while at the same time looking optimistically into the future.
An expansion of the site around the old forester is sought to create optimal framework conditions for both men and women's team. Zingler announced investments that are supposed to support the sporting success of the two teams and emphasizes the need for collaboration in the team.
changed management structure
In addition to the occupation with Zietz and Kienemann, the Presidium is completed by Christian Arbeit, the head of communication, as well as Dirk Thieme, Oskar Kosche and Lutz Munack. This new structure reflects a clear will of the association not only to increase the sporting performance, but also to create a modern and professional environment for everyone involved.
With these changes, the 1. FC Union Berlin signals that it is ready to act not only sporty in the upper league of German football, but also structurally with well-thought-out decisions and a diversity-promoting leadership policy. The coming years could be crucial for the club to position themselves both in the Bundesliga and in the wider football landscape.
