According to mass brawls and rioting: Berlin outdoor pool again opens under strict security precautions

Berlin - After mass brawls and rioting in the Neukölln summer pool, the outdoor pool on the Columbiadamm opens its doors again from Monday. Mobile police guards are used to ensure the safety of the bathers.

Due to the overwhelming situation with aggressive bathers, many employees of the Berlin bathing companies (BBB) had reported sick, so that the company had to be temporarily discontinued. Now visitors can only enter the Columbiabad with an ID, for example a identity card or student ID. The opening times are shortened and apply from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On the website of the Berlin bathrooms, it is pointed out that the large slides and diving towers remain closed due to the current occurrences.

"Slides and jumping towers make baths attractive to all guests. However, these are apparently these attractions that always attract rioters," said BBB CEO Dr. Johannes Kleinsorg. With the temporary closure, the BBB hope that the situation can be calmed down again.

In addition to these measures, mobile police guards should make the outdoor pool more secure for visitors. This goes back to a statement by Berlin's ruling mayor Kai Wegner (CDU).

The Columbiabad in Neukölln has been the scene of violent clashes in the past few weeks. In order to counteract this and ensure the security of the guests, increased security measures are now planned in the form of mobile police guards. In this way, possible conflicts are to be recognized and contained early. The mobile presence of the police is supposed to have a deterrent and prevent potential rioters from visiting the outdoor pool again.

The closure of the Columbiabad and the reinforced security measures are part of a comprehensive concept to restore the calm and order in and to restore the bathroom. The Berlin bathing companies hope that with these measures the outdoor pool will become a safe and peaceful place for all visitors again.
