Moabit celebrates sustainable mobility: Children conquer the pump track!
As part of the Moabit Week of Mobility, which takes place from September 22nd to 26th, 2025, Berlin's children and young people can expect an exciting program that is not only fun, but also aims to raise awareness of sustainable mobility and traffic safety. District Councilor Christopher Schriner has published a press release that presents the highlights and offers of the week in detail. Particularly noteworthy is the mobile pump track, which enables a special kind of cycling fun.
There will be a wide range of activities for participants of all ages throughout the week. The mobile pump track is open to schools from September 23rd to 26th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and to anyone interested on September 23rd, 24th and 25th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, a bicycle course is offered for preschool children between the ages of 3 and 6, which takes place in a safe environment under the supervision of experienced carers. Daycare centers are also invited to take part in this program every morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In the afternoons, the offerings are open to everyone from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Mobility and support action day
A special highlight of the week is the Mobility Action Day, which takes place on Thursday, September 25th, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Here, participants can, among other things, use Wendel's bicycle repair service, take part in an ADAC reaction test and immerse themselves in the world of traffic safety with virtual reality glasses from the Fraunhofer Institute. The entire event is organized by various partners, including BegSpo, the Otto playground (Moabit Ratschlag), the Moabit natural science and cultural education association as well as the Moabit youth traffic school and the Fraunhofer Institute. The Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment is supporting this project to promote sustainable mobility in the city.
The entire program and further information about the funding partners can be viewed on the Moabit Education Association website. The aim of this initiative is not only to introduce children and young people to cycling in a playful way, but also to sensitize them to the topics of road safety and environmental awareness.
International experiences in traffic education
A look at São Paulo, the fourth largest metropolis in the world, shows how international the issue of traffic safety is. There, the MobileKids road safety initiative, supported by Mercedes-Benz, works to promote safe, responsible mobility. The program is not only implemented in schools, but also made practical by converting school parking lots into traffic training areas. The students between the ages of 4 and 18 learn theoretical content in class, which they can then apply practically outdoors. A total of 64 public schools in the region benefit from this initiative, which serves as a role model for the whole of Brazil and highlights the importance of sustainable mobility.
The issue of sustainable mobility is not just a local but a global concern. The Moabit Week of Mobility in Berlin is a step in the right direction to raise awareness of environmentally friendly means of transport in Germany.
