Milestone for new housing in Moabit: Determination plan II-91-1

The district councilor for urban development and facility management, Ephraim Gothe, recently informed about an important milestone for the development of new apartments in Moabit. The development plan II-91-1 was established on April 16, 2024 by the district office Mitte and lays the basis for the construction of 108 residential units. The state-owned housing association Berlin-Mitte mbH (WBM) was commissioned to create affordable living space for various target groups and to strengthen the social location. The plan provides to create living space for young people and people with special living needs, to integrate the existing use, further develop the socio-cultural location and to create barrier-free access to the Fritz-Schloß-Park. In addition, ecological aspects and concerns of environmental and nature conservation are to be taken into account in order to serve climate protection.

The WBM plans to build approx. 80 percent of the apartments rental price and occupancy in order to obtain the social mix and stable resident structure in the district. The planning area was developed according to the guidelines of the Berlin model of cooperative building land development. The planning also takes into account the good connection to public transport, the greening of roof areas, the infiltration and management of the rainwater as well as planting new trees.

EPHRAIM Gothe emphasizes that future development will help create 108 residential units from a slightly exploited area and to qualify social and cultural uses. For Moabit and Rathenower Straße, this means a careful and ecological upgrade. Lars Dormeyer, managing director of the WBM, is pleased with the constructive cooperation with the district and emphasizes that the prerequisite for the start of construction was created this year. The goal is to make the area a sustainable place of diversity, with space for social, culture and community living.
