Climate -friendly neighborhood blocks: Neighborhood councils shape the future

An important step in the “Climate Kaucie” project was reached when the district office Mitte in Berlin sent 600 invitation letters to the residents of Antonkiez and the northern Luisenstadt. These invitations aim to persuade the residents to participate in neighborhood councils in order to jointly develop climate -friendly concepts for neighborhood blocks.

The neighborhood councils will consist of 15 to 20 participants who will work together on a concept for a neighborhood block. Each quarter received a sample by post to encourage 300 people to participate. The promise for participation will be sent in the second week of September. The neighborhood councils will meet in October, November and spring/summer 2025 to advance the participatory process. This multi -stage participation procedure enables residents to actively participate in the design of their neighborhoods.

The city councilor Christopher Schriner emphasized the importance of this new form of participation and explained: "Together with the residents and with scientific support, we want to find innovative solutions in order to make public spaces more secure and livable. I hope that all participants actively and constructively take part in the process."

Background of the Climate Caucie project

The "Climate Council" project is financially supported by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Security and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and carried out in cooperation with the Research Institute for Sustainability of the Helmholtz Center Potsdam (RIFS) and the University of Heidelberg. The goal is to develop concepts for neighborhood blocks that not only guarantee traffic safety, but also improve climate protection and quality of life in the neighborhood.

The "Climate Caucie" project is an innovative approach to involve the residents more in the design of their living environment and to develop sustainable solutions together. With the invitation to the neighborhood councils, the residents have the opportunity to actively participate in the development of their district and to promote positive changes.
