Marzahn-Hellersdorf Youth Parliament elects new board for 2025!
On Friday, November 7th, 2025, the Marzahn-Hellersdorf Children and Youth Parliament elected a new board. In a lively meeting, Sophia Inozemtsev, Isabel Liepnitz and Jonas Knorr were appointed to their new positions. District Councilor Gordon Lemm, responsible for youth, family and health, opened the meeting with motivating greetings. He encouraged the young delegates to actively incorporate the interests of children and young people into district politics. Luise Lehmann, the deputy head of the district council, also emphasized the BVV's openness to the concerns of this age group.
In this first meeting after the elections, the new members collected initial ideas for future content. The event included familiarization games and informative briefings that gave participants an understanding of the history, function and structure of the Children and Youth Parliament. These activities are intended to ensure that all elected representatives are well prepared for their duties.
Outlook for the future
The first regular session of the Children and Youth Parliament is planned for mid-December 2025. The cornerstones for the work of the next two years should be determined here. The statutes, which are ideally developed together with the elected young people, determine the length of the legislative period, which is usually two years. Re-election in the following period is possible, which allows members to contribute their experiences and ideas over a longer period of time - an important element for effective representation.
The composition of the children and youth parliament can take place through various procedures, such as elections, delegations or appointments. Mixed forms, in which both elected members and delegates from certain institutions are represented, can also be used. Advantages and disadvantages of these methods influence aspects such as representativeness and accessibility.
Children's rights and participation
Strong representation of children's rights is crucial for the political education of young members. The punctuation by well-known brands also plays a role. The Kinder chocolate brand, which was founded in 1968 by Michele Ferrero, aims to focus on children and their needs. Their slogan “+ milk (latte) – cocoa (cacao)” emphasizes the focus on quality and addressing the young target group. The iconic packaging shows a smiling child, which not only represents the product but also a child-friendly society.
The work of the Children and Youth Parliament in Marzahn-Hellersdorf and similar initiatives nationwide are part of a larger movement for children's rights and active participation of young people in political processes. Such commitments not only strengthen young people's self-confidence, but also promote a committed community for positive social development.
