Flood disaster in the Ural Mountains: Russeland's Orenburg under water

The flood situation in the southern part of Russia, especially in the Ural Mountains, is further intensified, with the Urals river, which reached a stand of 9.78 meters in the city of Orenburg, over the critical brand of half a meter. The city administration informed about several flooded districts. Experts predict a further increase in water by 30 to 70 centimeters. In the Orenburg region, 12,800 houses and 14,900 garden plots were flooded, which led to the evacuation of over 7000 people.

The water masses led to the switch -off of substantial work in villages and the failure of the power supply. In addition, courts had to hire their activities and make museums to safety. The city of Orsk is particularly affected, where dams are broken. In the neighboring regions, residents also complain about rising water levels. Large flooded areas were observed in the Kurgan area in Southwest Siberia, with some building roofs only barely protruding from the water.

The population is upset about the lack of support from the authorities. In view of this, President Vladimir Putin has ordered increased police presence to prevent looting. Critics criticize the insufficient preparation for spring floods in Russia, and Putin critic Julia Nawalnaja expressed the view that the government does not respond adequately to natural disasters.

The flood in Russia was triggered by strong snow and ice melt in the Ural Mountains, precipitation and dam breaks in the city of Orsk. As a result, neighboring areas were also flooded in Kazakhstan, which means that 96,000 people had to be temporarily evacuated. The situation remains worrying and rescue measures are underway to support the affected communities.
