Educators in Berlin demand collective agreement: union threatens with warning strike
Once again, daycare centers in Berlin from Warnstreik. The Verdi union is committed to better working conditions and calls for negotiations on a collective agreement. If the Senate does not give in, further strikes are planned.
The upcoming one -day warning strike of the educators in the municipal daycare centers in Berlin again ensures restrictions on the care of the children. The Verdi union and the Union for Education and Education (EW) increase the pressure on the Senate to achieve collective bargaining about an improved pedagogical quality of daycare centers and the relief of the staff.
is not fulfilled, Verdi plans a five -day strip for the period from July 8th to 12th. A total of seven strikes have already occurred in the past few weeks. The warning strike is accompanied by a demonstration in front of the Berlin state parliament, where the MPs hold their last session before the summer break.
The negotiations are difficult because Finance Senator Stefan Evers (CDU) criticizes the warning strikes as unnecessarily and speaks of child and parenting. He argues that the state of Berlin, as a member of the collective bargaining community of the federal states (TDL)
Verdi also expresses criticism of this attitude and describes it as unbelievable. Verdi regional district manager Andrea Kühnemann accuses Finance Senator Evers to rely on formal arguments and calls for a serious political will for negotiations.
There are around 2900 daycare centers in Berlin, which are mostly operated by free carriers and look after around 165,000 children. However, the warning strike only affects the approximately 280 urban daycare centers, in which around 7,000 educators are responsible for the care of around 35,000 children.parents therefore have to adapt to limited care options and organize alternatives. The concerns of the educators are the focus of the strike, they are committed to better working conditions, a higher pedagogical quality of daycare centers and a relief of the staff.
The current Situation illustrates how important the work of the daycare staff is and how urgently negotiations on a collective agreement are required to solve the problems in daycare centers in the long term. It remains to be seen how the Senate will react to the warning strike and whether there is an agreement.
