Decision to make construction work for cycle path on Hauptstraße in Berlin-Schöneberg
The construction work for the cycle paths on the main street in Berlin-Schöneberg should actually start in the coming weeks. The aim was that protected cycle paths along the busy road were available by the end of the year. But the transport administration initially put these plans on hold. After violent criticism, including the green traffic councilor Saskia Ellenbeck, a decision should now be made quickly. A spokeswoman for the transport administration told the Tagesspiegel: "We will make a decision at the latest next week."
In the debate about the Berlin cycle paths, the SPD state and faction leader Raed Saleh asked traffic senator Manja Schreiner (CDU) to convene a "mobility summit". He wants an honest dialogue with everyone involved, such as the country, districts, cyclists, drivers, pedestrians, BVG, police and fire brigade. The perspective of people with mobility restrictions should also be represented. The transport administration, on the other hand, said that such a meeting with many participants took place last week.
At the meeting, representatives of various associations, initiatives and police as well as fire brigades advise the city on traffic and mobility concepts. Participants included interest groups of pedestrians and cyclists, the ADAC, the BUND for the environment and nature conservation, the state advisory board and the Changing Cities association. This week another “in -depth meeting” with the cyclist club ADFC and Changing Cities took place.
The Saleh statements were commented on by a spokeswoman for the traffic senator. She said that the idea of a mobility summit had already been implemented. The announcement by traffic senator Manja Schreiner to review the plans for cycle paths and certain projects had made too much criticism and controversial debates about the traffic policy of the new Black-Red Senate in recent weeks.
