Life in Germany is becoming increasingly expensive. The capital is also not spared. From a survey by the Berlin Sparkasse for World Savings Day, how the Berliners hold their money together - or not.

The hammer: The economic situation has deteriorated this year for 44 percent of the capitals. Compared to 2021, this is an increase of 15 percent. According to the survey, inflation, war and economic crisis contributed.
The concern for money makes many Berliners pay particular attention to. Saving is the order of the day. Almost half of the respondents (45 percent) want to spend less money. 23 percent actually want to save less money, 14 percent go to their gel reserves. Of course, this is of course also a result of higher expenses, for example for energy and food.
Despite increasing prices, three quarters of the respondents continue to put money back. But: 25 percent do not put any money aside.
In the capital, savings are mainly made for unplanned purchases - this is what 59 percent of those surveyed say. But also securing in emergencies (48 percent) and retirement provision (46 percent) are important reasons for saving.
On behalf of the Berlin Sparkasse, the survey institute Info GmbH interviewed 1,000 Berliners in February.
