Berlin fights against queer hostility: Conference of participation on July 2!
The Berlin Senate has set itself the goal of fighting queer hostility and hate crime against LSBTIQ+ people. This topic is clearly addressed in the guidelines of government policy 2023-2026. Since March 2024, the state government has been working on a "state strategy for queer security and against queer hostility", which is developed in cooperation with LSBTIQ+ communities and the city society. Over 300 people are already actively participating in this process to find solutions together.
in Berlin, the location known as the historical rainbow capital, are queer hostility and violence against LSBTIQ+ people everyday problems. This requires urgent measures. This is all the more pressing than the numbers have increased in Germany -hostile crimes in Germany in recent years. In 2023, a total of 17,007 cases of hate crime were recorded throughout Germany, of which 1,785 were targeted against LSBTIQ+ people, a significant increase compared to 2022.

challenges and opportunities
So far, the challenges in the field of queer security are immense. A dark field study has shown that 96% of the LSBTIQ+ people do not show HATE Speech and 87% physical or sexual assault. The reasons are often the perception that offenses are considered "too low" or that there is afraid of the police or trans this reactions from the police. The Berlin state government, supported by the round table, is trying to participate in a participatory design of the state strategy.
The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) refers to an almost inclined increase in crimes in the area of "sexual orientation" and "gender -related diversity" since 2010. Judgment against LSBTIQ+ People also increase: In 2023, 212 victims of violent acts were registered. This shows the urgent need for measures to promote security for LSBTIQ+ people.
The state office for equal treatment - against discrimination (LADS) leads the leadership in the development of the state strategy. Occupied working groups analyze existing measures and develop proposals for future initiatives to improve the security situation for the LSBTIQ+ community.
The developments in Berlin are therefore reflected in a national trend that prescribes a clear direction: society has to actively campaign against queer hostility and strengthen the visibility and rights of the LSBTIQ+ community.
